Spain has 76 universities, with about two-third of these state-funded while the remainder are private institutions
In Spain, higher education institutions are classified according to whether they organize university or non-university provision. The later are further subdivided into centers which offer advanced vocational training cycles and specialized education institutions.
This type of provision is organized by universities, which may be public or private.
Higher Vocational Training may be offered in different types of institutions.
Spanish university degrees usually require four years of study, although certain degrees require additional years. Spanish higher education consists of Bachelor or undergraduate degrees (Grado) for four-year programs, Master's degrees (Master) for two-year post-graduate programs, and Doctorates (Doctorado) for post-master's education. The price of tuition is much lower in public universities than in private universities.
Universities offer both autumn and summer semesters, the latter one being the main one. At Universities, the academic year runs from September to June of the following year. Although application deadlines may vary depending on the institution, there are usually 3 intakes for studies at Spanish Universities:
Entry requirements to Spanish universities depend on the particular school and type of program you wish to study. Spanish universities generally have an online application form which is easy to fill out in order to start the enrollment process.
All the students must complete minimum 12th grade to get an admission at an undergraduate level in Spain. The candidates should possess at least 55% in 12th grade to gain an admission in majority of the institutions. The basic checklist for any undergraduate level education is as follows:
A candidate should minimum possess bachelor’s degree or equivalent to that to be eligible for any post bachelor’s courses. A minimum of 60% is required for the candidate to get an admission in majority of the institutions. Along with the other documents mentioned above individual semesters or yearly marks card, course completion and degree certificate is required to attain an admission.
It is very important to submit all these forms in Spanish, so, if they are in another language, search for a translator as soon as possible. If you provide the documents in any other language, the process will be delayed, and, by default, so will your acceptance.
IELTS is not mandatory for all the institutions. They also accept Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency Grade C, Cambridge Advanced Certificate Grade B and TEEP for undergraduate, second year entry, post graduate programs and PhD. However, IELTS: 7.0 (no less than 6.5 in reading and writing) or Cambridge Advanced Certificate: A is mandatory for MBA.
Tuition costs in public universities are some of the lowest in Europe and they are set by the Spanish government authorities for each area.Tuition fees are calculated on the pay-per-credit format and this is the reason why the amount could change if you withdraw and enroll the second or third time in the same degree program Tuition fees in public universities
Private universities have higher tuition fees, but usually not exceeding 18,000 EUR/year for any degree program. However, business schools may sometimes charge tuition over 20,000 EUR/year.
Now a new law has been approved, allowing international students to stay in Spain for a maximum of 12 months to look for a job or create their own business project.
